Finer Details

Cameos have been popular since early Greek and Roman times, when they were originally used to feature mythical then biblical scenes, and worn by men and women alike. They were a sign of status in Elizabethan times, and Napoleon loved them and wore one to his wedding! Cameos began to be carved from sea shells in the fifteenth century, and in the 1800s Queen Victoria revived their popularity with her love for them. Since that time, cameos have mainly showcased women's profiles, and been worn as many types of jewellery from pendants to rings and earrings. Our antique and vintage cameos are fine examples of the skill of past craftsmanship. They have recently come back in Vogue, according to Vogue itself and other style bibles such as Grazia and Elle.
