Vintage Early Kigu Gilt and Marcasite Entwined Hearts Compact
A rare early Kigu compact from the early 1950s, this delightful piece is made from gilt / brass metal with an elegant etched design to the front and back, completed by an entwined double hearts motif set into the top in silver, pave set with marcasite stones. A wonderfully unique and beautiful handbag mirror, or the perfect ‘something old’ to bring luck to a bride on her wedding day - and useful to have on the day.
To open you depress the button at the bottom. To close this compact you also have to depress the button too, which is slightly different to most compacts which close with a click - the Kigu ones are a bit different.
Slide down the side and the inner lid pops up to reveal the space for pressed powder. This one looks as though it has never been used. You could add a powder press to this or just use it for a handbag mirror. Looks gorgeous also on a vintage dressing table.
The compact measures 63mm in diameter, with the button and hinge a couple of extra mm.
In overall good vintage condition commensurate with age, the inside is perfect and looks to have never been used. There is some minor tarnishing to the outside, which does not detract from the compact and is expected with a piece of this age. Please see photos for details.
As with all of our items, this comes boxed in our signature Violet Vintage box and packaging, in the case of compacts that is also a violet velvet pouch. This can be further gift wrapped with a choice of tissue paper and our wax seal. All items can be sent with a free hand written card with whatever message you wish.
